‘Nap Hand’ for Development Side

Wednesday, 29 March 2017 09:41

The ‘Loons’ Development team returned to league action after a three week absence with an in the end resounding 5-1 win over Alloa Athletic at Station Park last night.

Both teams fielded basically Under 20 sides on the night and it was the home outfit who took the lead in the tenth minute.

A Jamie Gill cross from the right was headed past visiting keeper Andy Wilson by Max Avolio.

Just minutes later the visiting custodian did well to turn a Frankie Devine shot again from a Gill cross on to the post.

It took the ‘Loons’ only two minutes of the second period to increase their goal tally.   Matthew Aitken showed good strength to shrug of two defenders before rifling the ball home from 15 yards out.

It was 3-0 just after the hour mark.  Jamie Gill was brought down inside the six yard box and Andrew MacKenzie made no mistake from the resultant spot-kick.

Gill himself then got on the score sheet in the 70th minute with a powerful header from a Devine cross, before MacKenzie netted number five with a flashing header from a superb driven ball into the box from Josh Chalmers in the 81st minute.

Mark Greene netted a consolation counter for the ‘Wasps’ in the closing minutes of the contest.

The Athies next SPFL Development League East game is at home to Livingston on April 11th.
