Forfar Athletic 0 Edinburgh City 1

Wednesday, 02 November 2016 23:48

The Scottish cup reply started very well for Forfar Athletic with them using the full width of the pitch to create chances and look more likely the team to take the lead in the first half. A free kick from Danny Denholm floated into the penalty was  cleared by the Edinburgh defence but Thomas O’Brien delivered one of his trademark drives from 25yards out but Andrew Stobie dived full length to his right hand side to push past the post. Murray MacKintosh was having a good game and delivered a long ball down the sideline which David Cox did well to keep in play and crossed for Jim Lister to get a powerful header away but just wide of the post. Edinburgh started to grow into the game and their first effort on goal was from Sean Mushin with a powerful shot with Grant Adam saved comfortably. Ross Allum was the danger man for Edinburgh and proved to be a real thorn in Forfar Athletic’s side all night long, he latched onto a ball over the top of the defence and tried to lob Grant Adam only for the ball to hit the top of the crossbar.

Second half certainly belonged to Edinburgh City from the kick off and looked more potent as the game went on, another chance fell to Ross Allum and again he tried to lob Grant Adam but Stuart Malcolm cleared the ball before it could cross the goal-line, but wasn't long before he opened the scoring, Mark McConnell powered up the wing and crossed for Ross Allum to turn the defender and get his shot off low and hard into the bottom right hand corner of the net from 20yards out.  Ross Allum continued to torment the Forfar defence and looked more likely to increase their lead before Forfar started to get back into the game and their best chance to equalise fell to Allan Smith at the back post with a free header but he got the connection all wrong and the ball went harmlessly past the post.
