Forfar Athletic 0 Albion Rovers 2

Sunday, 27 August 2017 18:20

Ten man Forfar Athletic fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Albion Rovers on Saturday for their fourth defeat in a row.
Alan Trouten and Connor Shields netted Rovers’ two goals meanwhile Matthew Aitken was sent off just ten minutes after coming on for two bookable offences.
Three changes were made from last week’s defeat at Raith Rovers with David Cox, Scott McBride and the suspended Jamie Bain replaced by Josh Peters, Patrick Cregg and Michael Travis.
Both sides started the game off well with Gary Fisher and Rodrigue Nanitelamio coming close in the opening five minutes.
A Travis ball into the box found Josh Peters, who returned to the Loons earlier in the week, and after he forced his way past a defender his effort was turned past the post.
Dylan Easton fired wide before sending another shot into the keeper’s arms.
Rovers started to settle into the game after 20 minutes; coming close through Connor Shields and Alan Trouten.
Jim Lister was sent clear in the 26th minute but his shot was pushed wide by Graham Bowman shortly before Nanitelamio hooked wide from a Mark Millar corner.
Rovers took the lead shortly after the half hour mark when a poor pass by Mensing allowed Shields to play it out wide before McMillan’s cross was converted by Trouten.
They could have went further ahead before the break as Shields and McMillan came close with Mark Millar’s long range effort at the other end parried wide by the keeper.
Dylan Easton blasted over from 25 yards shortly after the break and the game was short on chances as neither side could break down the defence.
Millar curled a free kick over the bar and the Loons were denied a penalty in the 77th minute when Matthew Aitken appeared to be shoved inside the box but referee Greg Aitken let play go on.
Aitken had been booked shortly after this for simulation and the referee showed him his second yellow when he pulled a player back in the 83rd minute.
Rovers capitalised on this a minute later as Connor Shields fired home a Trouten cross to seal the win.
Forfar stay ninth in the league ahead of their trip to Alloa Athletic in a fortnight, two points ahead of Queen’s Park.
