Dundee 7 Forfar Athletic 0

Sunday, 31 July 2016 08:52

Dundee certainly found their form in todays game and improved massively from pervious performances in this competition to sweep Forfar Athletic aside with a convincing victory and showed the gulf between the sided to the full.

Dundee started fast and totally dominated the possession taking the lead in the 18th minute with a ball over the Forfar defence by Greg Stewart finding Paul McGowan clear and he lobbed Grant Adam. Dundee continued to press and create several chances before doubling their lead with a thunderbolt of a strike from Michael Duffy from 30yards out which found Grant Adam’s top left hand corner. Dundee completed their first half scoring with Greg Stewart netting from a tight angle after seeing his first effort saved by Grant Adam. Forfar didn’t put much pressure on the Dundee defence with the moves breaking down in the final third. Gavin Swankie floated a free kick into the box, Stuart Malcolm won the header and the ball fell to Jim Lister but he could not breach the Dundee defence with his shot.

The second half was a repeat the first half with Dundee again much superior to Forfar, from a corner  delivered into the box Yordi Teijsse headed the ball down and Julen Etxabeguren slipped the ball underneath Grant Adam. Forfar had speculative shots from Gavin Swankie, Danny Denholm and Thomas O’Brien but they didn’t trouble Scott Bain in the Dundee goal. Greg Stewart claimed his second of the day when a deflected cross from Kevin Holt fell to the much spoken about striker to see him fire home. The final goals of the game came from crosses into the box and a powerful diving header from Rory Loy and and a back post header by Yordi Teijsse.

It certainly looked like Dundee had a good day and Forfar Athletic had a day they just have to put down as one of those days, the only consolation is they know they will not meet with quality week in week out in league business and now have to move onto league encounters starting with a historic trip to play Edinburgh City in what will be their first ever competitive game in the Scottish Football League.
