Forfar Athletic 0 Alloa Athletic 2

Sunday, 10 December 2017 10:49

Forfar Athletic’s poor form continued on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat at home to Alloa Athletic for their fourth loss in a row.
A Kris Renton double was enough to give the Wasps all three points with Forfar struggling to create chances in the second half.
Jim Weir made three changes from the previous week’s defeat at Airdrie with David Cox and Eddie Malone missing while Ousman See dropped to the bench; Josh Peters, Scott Lochhead and coach Kevin McNaughton starting instead.
The Loons started off well with the first chance falling to Jamie Bain in the first minute; his effort blocked by the Alloa defence.
Four minutes later Josh Peters couldn’t find the target as he fired wide from the edge of the box.
The visitors had chances of their own with Andy Graham heading wide from a Steven Hetherington corner before Kris Renton had a long range effort held.
In the 18th minute the Loons came closest so far to find the net when a Scott Lochhead corner was met by Matthew Aitken however his header was cleared off the line with keeper Neil Parry beaten.
Kevin Cawley was denied by Marc McCallum five minutes later; his shot from distance pushed over by the keeper.
Aitken had an effort blocked while Graham headed wide at the other end again before Dylan Easton was unlucky not to break the deadlock in the 38th minute.
His free kick from 20 yards beat Parry but hit the bar before being cleared by the Alloa defence.
Scott Taggart had the last opportunity of the half with a long range effort that failed to trouble McCallum.
It was the visitors who came out for the second half looking eager to take the points and came close within 60 seconds of the restart; Craig Malcolm having a shot blocked while Hetherington fired over shortly after.
Renton had a shot blocked just before the hour mark but he went one better in the 67th minute when PJ Crossan made his way to the byline before cutting the ball back for Renton to stab home.
He was denied by McCallum minutes later with Cawley also having an effort blocked as Alloa looked for a second.
Forfar struggled to create any chances in the second half and their only clear opportunity fell to sub Mark Millar in the 78th minute; Easton setting the midfielder up however his low effort was parried by the keeper.
Alloa made sure of the points with just four minutes remaining; Renton finding the net again as he nodded a Hetherington cross past McCallum.
The Loons looked to be heading to the bottom of the league but were saved by Ayr’s late comeback against Queen’s Park. They now face the long journey to Stranraer this Saturday before a vital clash at home to the Spiders the following week.
