Forfar Athletic’s unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday after Berwick Rangers came from behind to grab a last minute winner.
The hosts went ahead early on through Darren Lavery and despite David Cox and Josh Peters netting for the Loons, an own goal and Gary Phillips won Berwick all three points after Danny Denholm’s harsh red card.
Andy Munro replaced the suspended Eddie Malone in the only change from last week’s draw with Elgin City, Thomas O’Brien moving in to midfield to accommodate Munro.
Forfar fell behind after just nine minutes when slack defending allowed Darren Lavery to strike past Grant Adam from the edge of the box.
Michael McKenna could have put Berwick further ahead but saw his effort parried before being cleared and four minutes after going behind, the Loons were level after Josh Peters set up David Cox to rifle past the keeper.
Peters turned goal scorer in the 21st minute; Danny Denholm doing well to beat two defenders on the right wing before his low cross was turned in by the top scorer.
The hosts could have equalised shortly before half time through McKenna although the midfielder couldn’t keep his effort down and blasted over the bar.
Forfar seemed to be on the road to victory but were dealt a blow in the 68th minute when Denholm was sent off following a bizarre second booking; the winger booked after being blocked on the touchline.
Two minutes later the hosts were level; Greg Rutherford’s low cross turned in by the unfortunate Jamie Bain.
Both sides looked to net a late winner with McKenna and Chris McLaughlin going close however it was Berwick who grabbed all three points when Gary Phillips stabbed home a McKenna cross with two minutes left of normal time.
The shine was taken off their win slightly in injury time when trialist David Verlaque was sent off for a challenge on O’Brien.
