Forfar Athletic earned a late point in their opening Betfred Cup group match but missed out on a second point in a 4-3 penalty loss at Brechin City.
After Isaac Layne put the hosts ahead, Mark Millar netted an 90th minute penalty to take the game to penalties for a bonus point but misses from Dylan Easton, David Cox and Ousman See saw Brechin win the shoot out.

The Loons started off well as Michael Travis saw a header from Easton's free kick fly inches wide of the post.
At the other end Andy Jackson nodded over in the 18th minute but Forfar came closer to scoring three minutes later through teenager Matthew Aitken.
A clearance was collected by Jim Lister and after cutting the ball back Aitken let fly with a first time effort that Graeme Smith had to look sharp to tip over.
Finn Graham sent a free kick over for the hosts just after the half hour mark.
Aitken came close again in the 35th minute; Jamie Bain’s cross was met by the youngster and his header was tipped on to the crossbar by Smith.

Ten minutes into the second half and the hosts were unlucky not to go ahead when Graham’s corner was headed towards goal by McLean however Scott McBride was on hand to clear off the line.
Easton sent a free kick over before Bain’s free kick was headed into the arms of Smith by Aitken.
Brechin took the lead in the 67th minute through Isaac Layne; the striker was allowed far too much space and fired past McCallum from 25 yards.
Jackson headed over in the 71st minute while David Cox saw his first effort blocked before sending his second chance over the bar.
The Loons were given a late chance in injury time as Willie Dyer challenged Cox inside the area and referee Craig Napier rightly awarded a penalty.
Millar stepped up to take the kick and despite Smith guessing correctly he couldn’t stop the midfielder netting on his debut.

Under the League Cup rules, the game went to penalties and they were taken at the Trinity Road end of the ground.
Millar stepped up first and put Forfar ahead with Dyer equalising for the hosts. Easton and former Loons midfielder James Dale missed their penalties before both Andy Munro and Sean Crighton netted the third penalties.
Cox missed Forfar’s fourth with Jackson putting Brechin ahead. McBride levelled for the Loons however Ally Love saw his chance to win the bonus point saved.
The spot kicks went to sudden death and Ousman See skied his penalty, allowing Kalvin Orsi to net the winning penalty to give the Glebe Park side the second point.
