Loons' Pre-Season Fixtures End With Defeat To Strong Terrors

Tuesday, 03 August 2010 22:00

Forfar Athletic 1 Dundee United 4

Dundee United saw off Forfar with an impressive 4 - 1 victory, and although there were some well known names sitting in the stand, there was also enough on the pitch to suggest that this was going to be a tough evening for the Loons. However, it was the home side who broke the deadlock in ten minutes when Barry Sellars comfortably placed the ball into the bottom corner of the net after the SPL side failed to clear a corner.

This appeared to spur Peter Houston's team into action and on the quarter hour mark they were back on level terms, as Prince Buaben drove the ball past Euan McLean with a spectacular strike.

United took the lead after twenty-four minutes when Garry Kenneth laid the ball onto Shala who headed past McLean to make it 2 - 1. Six minutes later Forfar's Bolochoweckyj denied Shala a second appearance on the score sheet with a goal line clearance after McLean had saved a Robertson effort which had ended a fine move involving Watson, Bauben and Dow.

The Tannadice side had the chance to make it three at the beginning of the second half but McLean acted quickly to block a powerful strike from substitute Sean Dillon.

Forfar's Paul Lunan then tried to convert with a stunning twenty-five yard shot which was just wide of the post.

United's third came when Shala put in David Goodwillie who went on an impressive solo run and showed great skill and composure to convert on sixty-nine minutes.

Livewire Goodwillie found the net again when he was quick to react after the ball broke to him in the box from a Douglas free-kick to make it four for the visitors.

Late on Gary Kenneth thundered a header off the bar as the Terrors looked for more goals but they were unable to add to the tally but nevertheless ran out comfortable winners.
