Ibrox Fixtures - One Down - One in the 'melting pot.'

Wednesday, 30 October 2013 09:23

With Rangers securing their place in the final of the Ramsdens Cup following their semi-final victory over Stenhousemuir, it means the Ibrox club will now meet Raith Rovers in the final at a venue still to be decided on Sunday April 6th.

This sadly means that the ‘Loons’ scheduled second visit of the season to Govan due on April 5th will be switched to a midweek slot.

Of a more imminent nature whether all connected with the Station Park club will even get one Saturday outing to the iconic Glasgow venue is debatable.

Our first scheduled visit on the 16th of next month is in doubt as it unfortunately falls on an international match weekend, albeit only friendly fixtures.

The latest comment from Rangers on the subject earlier this week was that they hoped the game would go ahead as scheduled, but that it would be around the middle to the end of week commencing November 4th before this would be confirmed or otherwise. When this discussion took place Rangers were aware that Arnold Peralta would be heading off to play for Honduras against Brazil, while Scotland have fixtures over the weekend against the USA and Norway which could involve potentially Lee Wallace and Cammy Bell.

The final ‘nail in the coffin’ for the game could well now be the fact that Northern Ireland at this late stage have announced that they have arranged a trip to face Turkey on the 15th, a match which could involve one or two of the Ibrox squad.

We can only keep our fingers crossed for good news as we enter November, as it would be a great disappointment to all connected with Forfar Athletic, especially the fans if both these fixtures, in all probability the two highest profile league fixtures in the club’s history, ended up being played on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening.

As ever the club will attempt through various channels to keep supporters up to date with the evolving situation and if the game goes ahead on the 16th, details of supporters coach arrangements already provisionally put in place by ‘Loons’ officials will be forthcoming.
