It is obvious to all that a senior football club in Scotland at the level that Forfar Athletic and many others participate at cannot be sustained simply by the money generated from within the game itself.

Season ticket sales, gate receipts and the hand outs from the parent bodies in fact make up only around half of the income necessary to keep a club like the ‘Loons’ afloat.

Therefore with no ‘sugar daddy’ in sight, an aggressive fund raising effort swings into action year on year.

The club are lucky to have the 1984 Lounge and the adjoining Hospitality Complex at our disposal, a venue much admired and envied by many clubs of similar stature and beyond.   This allows us to vastly increase our match day income through match sponsorship, hospitality packages not forgetting the finance generated from supporters who enjoy a glass or two in the lounge itself game by game.

The club are also lucky to have great support from the local business community in regard to their support for ground advertising season by season.

Match day also sees Rhona and her troop working feverishly on the club’s behalf in the Refreshment Kiosk, while Louise, Lesa and Ashling have done wonders in the new Club Shop in the season just past, building on the wonderful groundwork carried out in this regard by Cameron for many a year.

The ‘Loons’ Lottery though not as successful as it once was still brings in a steady income, while ‘hardy annuals’ like the 250 Club continue year on year.

We now move on to events staged by club officials and by god there are plenty over the course of the campaign which culminated with the 22nd Annual Sportman’s Dinner last Friday evening.

A new innovation this past campaign was the sponsored cycle run round the four Angus grounds, undertaken by a handful of Club Directors and a host of Supporters, the vast majority of the cash raised from this venture going to provide new physiotherapy equipment.

That apart the club with the help of a host of volunteers to many to mention individually have staged the following events/activities this past twelve months;-Annual Golf Tournament - Tribute Night/Disco in the Reid Hall – Two Scottish Spectacular Concerts in Reid Hall - Two Christmas Party Nights – Rod Stewart Tribute Night - General Knowledge Quiz – Burns Supper – An Evening with Jim Spence & Friends – Ladies Dinner – Wall of Fame/Buy a Brick.

We have also set up and organised Kid’s Coaching Sessions and supervised more than one private party/seminars etc in our facilities at the park, all of which provide vital income.

The Supporters Club as has been part mentioned above continue to work feverishly on the club’s behalf, especially on match days and only last week it was announced that they had raised £22,000 over the season from their toils.

All of the above shows that running Forfar Athletic is a seven day a week, fifty-two weeks a year operation carried out by a volunteer ‘army’ of which the club and in fact the town itself should be very proud of.
