From The Chairman

Friday, 26 May 2017 17:35

On behalf of all connected with Forfar Athletic I would put on record our thanks to our retiring Chairman Alastair Donald who has been a tremendous asset and driving force for the club over the past five years. The projects brought from planning through to completion during his ‘reign’ are almost too many to mention and I speak for all the Board members in saying we are delighted he will be staying with us and we look forward to receiving his positive input and good counsel.

To gain promotion through the play offs was a tremendous achievement especially on the back of the disappointment of being pipped for the Champions position so late on in the run in. Gary and the Management Team and all the players are to be congratulated on their achievement in bringing the Club back up to Division One at the first attempt and by doing it the hard way. Our record against Peterhead in the recent past has not been particularly good but the form and determination shown over both legs brought about a fully merited success and lead to one of those truly memorable days last Saturday in Peterhead and then in the 1984 lounge.

It has been a successful year for all the Angus Clubs and I would also wish to congratulate Brechin in gaining promotion to the Championship, Arbroath for winning the Division 2 title and Montrose for making it to the play offs. It is good to see all the local clubs doing well and we look forward to meeting our friends from Arbroath again next year.

It is a privilege to be asked not only to join the Board but then to be asked to be Chairman and I am looking forward to the challenge and keeping all things moving forward engaging even more with the local Community. The Club has an extremely hard working Board and a loyal band of supporters all putting in long hours free of charge and I thank you all and ask you please keep it going. There are many financial challenges facing the footballing world so every function we run the more it helps secure Forfar Athletics position and ability to challenge year on year.

Training starts again in under three weeks so work has already started on the planning for next year.

If anyone is of a mind to help the club in any way then as the saying goes ‘the latch is on the outside of the door’.

Ken Stewart
