| It’s a real disappointment to be simply leaving the Station Park job. It’s a smashing club to be part of, and it’s been my privilege to the manager of the club. However for every once of pride I had in taking the job, I’m equally not proud in respects of what the club have failed to achieve this year. The expectation of the backroom staff, of myself and of the board was an awful lot higher than what we actually achieved. This is a results driven business, and I can have few complaints when you look at where the club is statistically in the league. However at the same time an awful lot of hard work has been put in by the backroom staff so I must give my thanks to Willie Garner, Jim Butter, Scott Shepherd, Donald Ritchie, Martin Wilkinson, Linda Craik, Martin Gray, Craig Lutton and everyone involved with the programme and website.
The board have been nothing other than supportive to me, and whoever succeeds me will be fortunate to have that kind of support behind them. Hopefully the ongoing share issue will result in some additional monies being made available to the new manager which would help the club return to its rightful place in Scottish Football – which is certainly higher than its current position.
From the playing angle, we have had injuries and suspensions to big players at critical times, but that’s certainly not an excuse. In terms of effort and commitment I cannot criticise the players and, with a couple of exceptions, relationships have been first class.
I’m certainly not ashamed of the way I went about my business in respects of training or match business, however if people are critical about the way the team played, then it was myself that was responsible for keeping players on and bringing new players in. For that reason I would hold up my hands and take 100% responsibility if people are critical of the player’s performances in a Forfar shirt this year.
There were certainly the odd shout that resulted from some supporters airing their feelings very publicly, and they are certainly entitled to do so. However many more could understand the troubles and strife’s that we were subject to this year, and showed a real level of understanding. That said I’m sure their patience would have run out quite quickly if we had started next season poorly.
I wish everyone at Station Park well in the future.
