Following last night’s convincing 3-1 victory over Aberdeen’s Under 20 side before a crowd of only around 200 at North Lodge Park, the home of Formartine United, courtesy of a brace from Josh Peters and a first ‘Loons’ goal for Allan Smith, the Athies will be in tomorrow’s third round draw of the Irn Bru Challenge Cup.
The third round ties are due to be played on Saturday September 3rd, which means thankfully that Gary Bollan’s side will not now have a free weekend.
All ten Ladbrokes Championship sides eventually enter the fray at this stage of the competition along with Alloa Athletic and Livingston.
The draw will again be seeded and regionalised meaning that the ‘Loons’ will be non seeded sides on this occasion in the north section along with Brechin City, Elgin City, Peterhead and the winners of tonight’s ties between Arbroath and East Fife and Turriff United and Montrose.
Potential opponents are certain to include Dundee United, Dunfermline Athletic, Falkirk and Raith Rovers, with Scottish Cup winners Hibernian a possibility, depending which ‘pot’ they decide to place the Easter Road club in.
A home tie would certainly be a pleasant ‘distraction’ from league business!
