COMMENT
The ‘Loons’ complete the group stage phase of the KDM Evolution Trophy with a trip to face League1 Cove Rangers on Tuesday evening.
Both sides have qualified for the first knock out stage, only eight of the thirty teams dropping out at this point. Neither however now harbour much hope of clinching a top six and with it a seeded spot in the draw, the ten Championship clubs entering the fray at this juncture.
Qualification brings with it a more than reasonable financial reward no doubt appreciated by the Directors of both clubs and the management and players can now look forward to further participation in the revamped competition which used to go under the banner of the Challenge Cup.
The ‘Loon’s go into the contest on the edge of the Granite City faced with an injury crisis. In fact with the on loan Rangers duo Cormac Christie and Kyle Wark cup tied with their parent club and following a bruising ninety minutes on Saturday past, Jim Weir looked as if he would be lucky to have around fourteen fit bodies to choose from.
The fixture will in fact be the Loons’ 27th game of the season to date inclusive of pre-season friendly matches and there is no doubt it is taking its toll on a relatively threadbare squad.
The referee on Tuesday is George Calder.

Draw for Round of 32, First Knock Out Stage – This will be made at Hampden Park on Thursday afternoon at 1p.m.
