The ‘Loons’ begin 2026 with a trip on Saturday to New Douglas Park in Hamilton to face a Clyde side, currently sitting in third position in the William Hill League2 table.
Darren Young’s outfit have in fact only lost one of their last six league games, gaining a creditable 1-1 draw at neighbours East Kilbride last weekend. Former ‘Loons’ defender Logan Dunachie had a mixed afternoon in that game at ‘K’ Park, scoring the ‘Bully Wee’ goal, prior to being given his marching orders in the closing minutes for a second bookable offence.
Jim Weir and his side go into the contest on the back of an excellent display against Elgin last weekend at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park, with what looked on paper to be a makeshift side, due to injury and suspension woes. The Forfar management team felt in fact that it was the best three point haul that the team had picked up to date and certainly the home support reacted in a hugely positive fashion at the end of the ninety minutes.
The selection problems in fact continue for Jim and Gavin ahead of Saturday’s clash, although they are living in hope that one or two of the recent absentees might come through a Friday morning training session fit and raring to pull on a jersey to augment the match day squad numbers. Jim is also hopeful that there may be a new addition to the squad prior to kick-off with the winter registration window now open. A late decision will also be made on the fitness of goalkeeper Neil Stafford after the hip injury he picked up in the first half last Saturday.
The position as regards player suspensions certainly does not improve. Although Jake Dolzanski returns to the match day squad having missed the Elgin victory, Craig Slater sits out the visit to Lanarkshire having picked up his sixth yellow card of the campaign against the Morayshire outfit.
Neither side has managed to find the net in the two clashes between the teams so far this season, but ‘Loons’ fans will be hoping that Scott Shepherd and Martin Rennie, the latter playing against his previous employers, have their shooting boots on for what is sure to be another tense and tight ninety minutes. Jim weir certainly acknowledges that his players will to have a similar attitude from the off as they showed last Saturday allied to a skill factor that was also clear for all to see on the day if they are to get the New Year off to a winning start.
Daniel Graves is the man in the middle on Saturday, the third time he has refereed a ‘Loons’ away fixture this season having been in charge of our visits to both East Kilbride and Dumbarton.
The match has the normal 3pm. kick-off.
