Montrose 3 Forfar Athletic 0

The ‘Loons’ run without picking up a point extended to six games at Links Park yesterday afternoon and to be frank no one involved with the Station Park outfit could have any complaint about the final outcome.
Barry Smith in charge of the team fielded the same starting eleven as last week and amazingly when the opening two counters came along for Stewart Petrie’s on form side, there were similarities to the two goals conceded against the ‘Bairns.’
In the 33rd minute Marc McCallum brought off a superb save, but from the resultant corner, as had happened last week, the ‘Gable Endies’ took the lead, Blair Lyons crashing the ball home.
Then just a minute into the second half it was 2-0 with an own goal so similar in circumstance to the one conceded last week it was almost ‘spooky.’ A Graham Webster right-wing cross caused major problems for the Forfar rearguard and this time around it was Darren Whyte who in attempting to avert the danger headed into his own net.
Dale Hilson then missed his side’s best chance of reducing the leeway shooting wide of the upright when one on one with home custodian Aaron Lennox.
It was substitute Shaun Struthers who put the ‘icing on the cake’ for the home side with nine minutes remaining, rifling the ball home from the edge of the box.
This result and overall performance proved that the new management team whoever they may be and the Forfar Directors hope to make an appointment in the next 24 hours will have a big task on their hands to lift the morale and the matchday mentality of the squad.
It is probably a blessing in disguise that we have no competitive game next weekend and therefore the new man at the helm will get a handful of training sessions to hopefully get his side in better shape prior to the Scottish tie at Dumbarton on the 23rd of the month.
