The ‘Loons’ made it three league games unbeaten under Stuart Malcolm’s stewardship by securing a point in the driving rain at Broadwood yesterday afternoon.
It was also the second successive away clean sheet for the Station Park outfit.
However their inability to find the net at the other end cost them dearly in the closing quarter of the contest, this after they had survived a few scary moments in the earlier exchanges.
The first half was in fact almost as dull as the weather with only a superb double save from Marc McCallum worth recounting.
The second period was however more pleasing on the eye for both sets of fans.
McCallum was again in the thick of the action getting down sharply to a crisp 25 yard strike from Chris McStay in the 53rd minute, prior to sixty seconds later thwarting Darren Smith as he homed in on goal.
Dale Hilson then miscued a header with the goal at his mercy from a Ross Forbes cross in the 58th minute before a real let off for the visitors on the hour mark.
Michael Travis brought down Barry Cuddihy inside the area. Raymond Grant’s subsequent spot kick hit with ferocious power, clipped the clipped the cross bar before flying high over the roof of the leisure centre behind McCallum’s goal and out of the park!
Having soaked up that pressure Forfar had a handfuil of chances in the closing twenty minutes of the contest to secure a victory.
Hilson sliced a Forbes cut back wide of the mark, before David Mitchell brought off a double block to thwart the striker, Callum Tapping blasting a strike over the bar from 12 yards out in the dying stages with by then the ‘Bully Wee’ rearguard in disarray.
This result lifted the ‘Loons’ five points clear of Stranraer at the bottom of the table and still very much within striking distance of two or three teams just above them in the Ladbrokes League 1 table.
All connected with the club will hope the improved fortunes will continue when Dumbarton come calling at Station Park on Saturday first.
