Loons Good Run Continues, But Only Just

Forfar Athletic 1 Alloa Athletic 1
Following Saturday's match against Alloa it was Forfar's turn to entertain in this double header. If the majority of the Station Park crowd turned up hoping to see a repeat of the convincing victory enjoyed by the Loons at the weekend, they were to be disappointed as the home side produced a below par performance. That said, the point picked up continued their unbeaten run and cemented their place in a play off position. David Mowat was unavailable due to work commitments, therefore a fit again Iain Campbell returned.
The early stages of the first half was an even contest with both sides struggling to create any clear cut chances. The visitors then began to have the upper hand. Twice in as many minutes they came close to opening the scoring - a dangerous cross from the right was fired just over by McDonald, quickly followed by Prunty shooting low against Gallacher's legs from 12 yards out.
Forfar were struggling to reproduce the excellent passing of recent matches, that coupled with a vastly improved show from Alloa meant that the Loons were up against it and twice in the closing stages of the half the Wasps could have scored. Stuart Noble headed wide from close range and the same player then found himself one on one with Gallacher, but he tried to take the ball wide before firing, and to the relief of the home side the ball went wide of the goal.
As both sides trooped off for the half time interval Forfar were no doubt thankful they were not several goals behind.
Within five minutes of the restart Deasley collected a loose ball on the left, and manoeuvred his way inside the penalty box before almost lifting the ball over Ewings, only for the keeper to palm the effort over for a corner. Following the clearance from the corner Templeman played in Ross Campbell whose curling effort was again well saved by the visiting custodian.
Forfar were enjoying their best spell of the match, and on 68 minutes went so close to breaking the deadlock with a magnificent scissors kick from Dale Hilson on the right hand side of the box. The ball rebounded off the right hand post and was cleared to safety. The opening goal came sixty seconds later when Scott Walker handled and the ref awarded the spot kick. Ross Campbell stepped up to easily dispatch his 3rd goal in two games.
As the home side tried to hold onto their lead, Alloa were obviously determined to take something from the game, and scored a deserved equaliser after 81 minutes. Kevin Motion opened up the Forfar defence and substitute Lister struck a right foot shot past Gallacher.
A tough match against Ayr United looms and let’s hope Forfar can regain their sparkle on Saturday
