Last Gasp Goal In Slow Motion Saves The Loons

Dumbarton 1 Forfar Athletic 1
For the second match on the trot, the weather put paid to any good football being produced by either team. The wind swirled across the park for the full 90 minutes, and neither team really came to grips with mastering it. The Loons began the match with three changes from the previous week's starting line up. Craig Wilson, Graham Gibson and of course new loan signing Jamie Langfield replaced Chris Hegarty, Martyn Fotheringham and Greg Paterson.
The match started with Dumbarton having the strong wind at their backs and not surprisingly were the better team in the first half. The first effort of the game fell their way after Iain Campbell felled Scott Agnew on 11 minutes, Agnew took the free kick himself from the right and it looped just over Langfield's crossbar. Four minutes later the Sons opened the scoring. Mark Gilhaney and Ryan Borris combined well to carve open a chance for PAT WALKER who made no mistake in sliding the ball past Langfield. Five minutes later and it was almost 2-0, Gilhaney's corner from the left eluded Langfield and Iain Campbell did well to clear the ball off the line.
Forfar began to threaten their hosts and were finding the left flank their best option with Nicky Low getting the better of his marker.
David Mowat did well to win the ball in midfield and let Low loose, he crossed over towards Ross Campbell but Nugent cleared for a corner. Two minutes later Greg Ross found Campbell in space on the edge of the box, he in turn found Low running into the box from the left, and again his cross was blocked out for a corner. Agnew was next to try his luck, and Langfield had to be alert to palm over the 25 yard effort. With the home side putting Forfar under pressure they couldn't add to their tally and both sides went into the break with one goal between them.
The Loons began the second half with the wind in their favour, and twice in 10 minutes had attacks broken down just outside the home penalty area. But it was Dumbarton who almost bagged another. Nugent and Borris combined to beat Wilson and Borris entered the box and his shot beat Langfield, but not Iain Campbell, who cleared off the line for the second time of the match. After 74 minutes Nicky Low fed the ball through to substitute Kevin Byers who found space to fire past Ewings, but it was Forfar's turn to see a defender clear a certain goal off the line.
Deep into injury time, a long throw from the left by Iain Campbell found Michael Bolochoweckyj, who managed to divert the ball into the penalty box and fellow substitute KEVIN MOTION stretched to head goalwards, Ewings got a hand to the ball but couldn't stop it going over the line for the equaliser.
A draw was the only fair result and extended Forfar's unbeaten run.
