The ‘Loons’ recorded a third successive and well-deserved win at the Penny Cars Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The only surprise, especially in a second half which Jim Weir’s outfit totally dominated, was the fact that it took until the 82nd minute for the deadlock to be broken.
However what a goal it was. A cracking left-foot drive from the edge of the box from John Baird flew past David Hutton into the roof of the net.
It was, in fact, no surprise to anyone that the match sponsors chose as the ‘Diamonds’ man of the match, their goalkeeper who pulled off a few outstanding saves over the piece to keep the visitors at bay.
The Athies now sit one point behind third-placed East Fife in the table with a derby match at the Glebe to look forward to for all concerned this coming Saturday.
