Sportsman’s Dinner – Another Night to Remember
[Saturday, 18 May 2019 13:28]
A capacity audience in excess of 250 attended the club’s 24thAnnual Sportsman’s Dinner in the Reid Hall on Friday nightand boy were they royally entertained at what was a fantastic night.
The main speaker was former Welsh International striker John Hartson, a man of many clubs including of course Celtic for a five season stint in the early part of the millennium.
His compelling life story culminating in his recovery from life threatening cancer enthralled the Reid Hall patrons, of that there was no doubt.
Bothwell based John McKelvie and John O’Neil from Midlothian on his Reid Hall debut both had their audience in almost tears of laughter, despite their totally different style of delivery.
Many ‘veterans’ of the event were of the opinion that it was the best trio of speakers that have graced the event over the years, so how do the organisers follow that for Dinner number 25 in May of 2020?
The paying guests also supported the raffle on the night to sum effect, while a few thousand pounds and more was raised by John McKelvie in his secondary role of the evening as the Auctioneer.
Thanks to all who attended or contributed in any way to the success of another superb evening, the club coffers hopefully after the figures are totted up being boosted by a tidy five figure sum.
