Thirty-four-year-old Gary Irvine who was such an integral part of the ‘Loons’ first team in the second half of the 2018/19 campaign has returned to the club in the dual role of Player-Assistant Manager, replacing the Australian bound John Baird in the latter role.
Gary who numbered Ross County, St. Johnstone, Dundee and St, Mirren amongst his former clubs signed for the ‘Loons’ in early February and was a first-team regular in his midfield berth for the remainder of the season.
At the same time Gary who resides in Belshill was assisting in a coaching role with the second string and the under 18’s at Dens Park and before making a decision on his future in the close season was awaiting the outcome of new managerial appointments etc at Dundee and elsewhere.
To the delight of Jim Weir and Forfar Athletic officials he has now agreed to accept the offer of an initial one year contract in his new role at Station Park, working alongside Jim and first-team coach Barry Sellars as the club with seven new faces in their ranks prepare for hopefully a renewed challenge for promotion to the Ladbrokes Championship in the season ahead.
