Forfar Athletic 0 Falkirk 2

The ‘Loons’ slumped to bottom spot in the Ladbrokes League 1 with defeat at home to the ‘Bairns’ yesterday their fifth consecutive match to end pointless.
To be fair over the ninety minutes the home side could not be faulted for their effort and commitment, but one has also to be honest and admit that Robbie Mutch in the visitors goal was rarely troubled.
The Athies did however have the first concrete chance of the game with seven minutes on the clock, Dale Hilson’s strike from the right hand side of the box slipping just wide of the post.
Falkirk grew into the game thereafter, but created little until Marc McCallum brought off an excellent stop to thwart Louis Longridge in the 31st minute.
Sadly from the resultant corner Mark Durnan rose to forcehome what was a fairly soft opener for the visitors to send their considerable travelling support into raptures.
The main talking point of the remainder of the first period revolved around two decisions by the match referee with surely Durnan for the second time this season against the Station Park outfit extremely lucky not to see a red card.
On this occasion he was shown yellow for a block on Hilson which many might have deemed thwarting a goal scoring opportunity, then just minutes later he escaped further punishment for a scything midfield tackle.
In the second period Michael Travis headed just over from a right wing corner, while the visitors did come close on a couple of occasions to extending their slender advantage.
The ‘killer punch’ for the ‘Loons’ came with four minutes of the ninety remaining. A dipping cross from the right flank evaded all, prior to Travis under pressure at the far post diverting the ball into the net with two Falkirk forwards eagerly waiting to pounce.
Forfar now head to inform Montrose on Saturday first as they try to get their season back on track.
