Thank you

The final fixture in Group D of the Premier Sports Cup brought with it a highly encouraging performance from the home side in all facets and with it a 1-0 win over our near neighbours Arbroath.
First and foremost this Sunday morning a big thank you to the supporters of both sides, a crowd of just over 1,000 in the midst of the holiday period welcomed by officials of both clubs. A special word to the home support who yet again gave Jim and his players great encouragement from the first to the last whistle, much appreciated by all.
It was also great to see all the hospitality lounges full to capacity on the day, not always the case at early season cup tie jousts.
The main reason of course was the club’s first ever Ladies Day which certainly added to the atmospherics of the afternoon. All seemed to have a ball and of course the majority being of an Athies persuasion, the end result put the ‘icing on the cake.’
A special word of thanks to Lesley Deas and Jacqui Williamson for their hard work in organising the event. Thanks also to all the forty odd ladies who supported the venture and in particular to Lisa Hendry, Kay Murray, Jane Rae and Jacqui herself who organised the various parties.
The Sam Smith Lounge on the day was occupied by a mix of ‘Loons’ and ‘Lichties’, all superbly attired it has to be said and thanks on this occasion to Jamie Milne and Derek Christison for putting the group together and for the valued support.
Finally a thank you to Fred and Rosemary Stephen great supporters of the ‘Loons’ cause for more years than they probably care to remember who were the ball sponsors for the fixture, on the day celebrating not only the result but also their 56th wedding anniversary.
Onwards now to the thirty-six game league campaign which begins with a visit from Stranraer on Saturday first.
There is an undoubted optimistic feel around the club at present from the managers, players right through to the oldest and youngest supporter. No doubt Jim, his staff and the players will be giving their all in the weeks ahead to make sure that it is not unfounded.
