Elgin City 2 Forfar Athletic 1

Two goals in ten minutes saw Elgin City keep all three points at Borough Briggs in a disappointing 2-1 defeat for Forfar Athletic on Saturday.
Jake Sutherland put the Loons ahead midway through the first half but a double from sub Ryan Sargent turned things around for the hosts with the Loons unable to lay a glove on them in the second half.
Jim Weir made two changes from last week’s draw with Edinburgh City as Inglis and Shepherd were replaced by Jake Sutherland and Cormac Christie, the latter making his senior debut after signing on loan earlier this week.
It was a blustery affair at Borough Briggs and with the wind behind them the Loons had the first opportunity 12 minutes in as Cormac Christie ran onto a ricocheted ball to force a one on one but Tom Ritchie denied him.
The deadlock was broken in the 24th minute; a long ball caught out the Elgin defence and Jake Sutherland raced clear and slotted past the keeper for his second goal of the season.
The scorer tried his luck from distance just after the half hour mark but the effort was lashed over the bar.
Marc McCallum had to look sharp to tip over a fierce Josh Walker strike over the bar and from the resulting corner Jack MacIver fired wide from just inside the box.
A change was made at the break with Lorimer replacing Christie as Jim Weir shored up his midfield while Sutherland dragged a low shot past the post early in the half.
A ball over the top in the 54th minute caught the Loons defence flat footed as Josh Walker found himself one on one with Marc McCallum but he couldn’t beat the keeper.
Elgin made a double sub two minutes later and within sixty seconds it paid off as Ross Sargent guided a MacIver cross into the bottom corner to level the scores.
Forfar made their second sub of the afternoon just after the hour mark with Nathan Cannon replacing the cautioned Martin Rennie.
It was two for Sargent within ten minutes of coming on; heading home a MacIver corner to put the hosts in front.
Elgin were in the ascendancy as Ali Spalding fired over with Forfar sloppy in defence. Shortly after a bouncing cross into the danger zone almost caught McCallum out as he had to claw the ball away.
Lyle Wark made his senior debut with twenty minutes remaining, replacing Scott Bright.
Forfar were struggling to cope with Elgin’s balls over the top as McCallum had to be sharp to deny Colloty.
Our final change came with eight minutes remaining; goalscorer Sutherland making way for Richardson.
Despite enjoying a bit more of attacking play late on, Jim Weir’s side weren’t able to carve anything out and left Borough Briggs empty handed, dropping to fifth in the process.
