Home Sweet Home for the ‘Loons’
[Monday, 01 December 2025 17:56]
December month will see the ‘Loons’ play five fixtures in the William Hill league2 and the KDM Evolution Trophy, with four of them on home ‘turf’.
The first of those games is on Saturday first the 6th of the month when East Kilbride, the league newcomers this campaign pay their first ever visit to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park. Last year’s Lowland League champions have made an excellent start to their first season in the SPFL and currently sit just a point adrift of league leaders The Spartans. The home side will also be all out to avenge a 5-0 defeat in late August at K Park on a day when almost everything that could go wrong on the day did!
Home game number two comes along on Tuesday week the 9th of the month when Edinburgh City will be the visitors to the ‘toonie’ in the first knock out round of the KDM Evolution Trophy. With their Scottish Gas Scottish Cup exit meaning a financial hit as always for the club this clash with the Capital City outfit takes on even more importance to the Athies as it does for other clubs, due to the excellent monetary awards on offer for progression round by round. However City who are without doubt in a false league position due to the penalty points deductions they have received will prove tough opponents on the night. Full detail of admission prices for a cup tie which will have the normal 7.45pm. kick-off will be clarified and communicated on social media this coming midweek.
Saturday the 13th of December sees Forfar Athletic management and players ‘hit the road’ for the only time in the calendar month to meet an Annan Athletic side who without doubt will be buoyed by the thought of a January visit to Ibrox in the cup. It will be the ‘Loons’ second visit of the season to Galabank having drawn 1-1 at the venue at the end of ninety minutes in a Premier Cup group stage contest back in early July.
On the Saturday before Christmas, Michael McIndoe’s Edinburgh City will make a swift return to Forfar, this time for a league fixture of major importance to both sides who will be keen to give their fans a boost prior to Santa coming ‘doon the lum’.
The month then comes to an end football wise on Saturday the 27th, derby day in League2 which brings with it for the ‘Loons’ a visit from Elgin City. That fixture will also bring the first half of the league campaign to an end with the registration window due to open five days later.
What would Jim Weir like in football terms for a pre-Christmas present. Without doubt a few three point hauls, a KDM Trophy victory and most of all the larger than normal injury crisis he has to cope with in recent weeks clearing up fast just for a starter. Perhaps as a ‘stocking filler’, despite the superb backing the club have received from the stand and terracing this season to date, a few extra supporters at the home games would also not go amiss. To be fair attendances in the past usually show a slight increase over the festive period. We live in hope!
As a footnote to this resume of what lies ahead in December for the Athies, we will now have a blank Saturday on January 17th. Our scheduled William Hill League2 game at the Vanloq Community Stadium against the Spartans will now have to be re-arranged for a midweek slot later in the season, due to Dougie Samuel’s sides participation in the fourth round of the national tournament that afternoon when they will entertain the winners of the Tranent v Inverness Caledonian Thistle third round tie. That postponement actually means that as things stand, five of the ‘Loons’ next seven league fixtures will take place at home.
