Preview
The ‘Loons’ welcome Stranraer to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday looking for a victory that would take them into the top four in the Wiliam Hill League2. Achieving that aim will however be no easy task against the form team in the league at present, Chris Aitken’s side currently sitting in that fourth position, one point above Jim Weir’s charges.
Jim’s right hand man Gavin Price is confident that a positive result can be achieved if the squad continue the form they have shown in their last two outings against Elgin City and Clyde. Both performances have been a mix of grit, determination and no little footballing skill and the Forfar management team will be emphasising to the players prior to kick-off how important it is that this momentum continues with two successive home league games now on the horizon.
There is at last better news on the player availability position. Craig Slater returns following his one match ban, while Matty Allan and Lewis Martin both participated in a full training session on Thursday night. Latest acquisition Callum Wilson will also be in the match day squad which may well also include for a second week running the experienced Blair Alston in ‘trialist’ mode.
The visitors arrive in Forfar on an eight game unbeaten run in competitive fixtures. Three wins and three draws in league outings have also been augmented by victories over Clydebank and East Kilbride in the Scottish Cup and the KDM Trophy respectively.
The Athies triumphed 1-0 back on the opening day of the league campaign against the Stair Park outfit, a 3-1 win for the home side the final outcome of our visit to Wigtownshire in early November.
Referee on Saturday is Stewart Luke whose previous visit to Forfar this term was for the September clash with Annan Athletic.
At present the Station Park playing surface is playable and no inspection is planned. Spectators however are reminded that conditions on the approaches to the ground could still be tricky and care should be taken. Into the bargain, obviously wear sensible clothing if coming along because at the end of the day, it is early January in ‘Farfar’ after all!!
C’mon the ‘Loons’.
