Queens Park v Forfar Athletic - Match Preview
[Monday, 12 January 2026 18:07]

With temperatures throughout the country rising day by day, the ‘Loons’ round of sixteen tie in the KDM Evolution Trophy at the City Stadium in the shadow of Hampden Park against Queens Park looks certain to go ahead at the second time of asking on Tuesday evening with a 7.45pm. kick-off.
Jim Weir’s side will go into the game on the back of a three game unbeaten run in the league following Jake Sutherland’s late equaliser on Saturday past against what was on the day an impressive Stranraer outfit.
The Athies will head to Glasgow for the cup tie, our first meeting with the ‘Spiders’ since July of 2022 with a match day squad which will show little if any change to the Stranraer clash.
Queens are also in good run of form and are unbeaten in their last three Championship outings, the last of which saw them draw 2-2 on home soil in the Glasgow derby against Partick Thistle. That game was played on the 27th of December, Sean Crighton and his players inactive since with clashes against Ayr United and St. Johnstone falling foul of the weather.
The two teams have reached this stage of the competition utilising different pathways. For Forfar Athletic it has meant six group stage games against the ‘B’ teams of Hibernian, Dundee and Aberdeen as well as League 1 opponents Montrose, Cove Rangers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle, all this prior to a first knock out round penalty shoot-out success against Edinburgh City. The tier two clubs did not enter the tournament until the knock out stages, Queens recording a narrow 2-1 derby success at home to Clyde.
Long time Grade One official Gavin Duncan is the man in the middle for the tie.
Craig Slater and his colleagues will obviously go into the game as underdogs but without doubt willing to battle for ninety minutes to potentially secure a last eight berth in a competition that has undoubtedly got a lift and it would appear a more meaningful appeal and purpose to clubs under the guise of its most generous new sponsors this time round.
Admission prices for the tie are as follows;-

Concessions (65&over, Students & Under4 18’s) £8
Under 12’s £5
