Elgin City v Forfar Athletic - Match Preview
[Monday, 23 March 2026 23:34]
The ’Loons’ head to Borough Briggs on Tuesday first to meet Elgin City in their final rearranged William Hill League 2 fixture. The match was originally scheduled for the 14th of February, but a frozen playing surface up in Morayshire led to a mid-morning postponement.
It goes without saying that another very important ninety minutes lies ahead for both sides, who, along with Stranaraer, sit on the 36-point mark in the table. Stranraer are also in action on Tuesday evening when they welcome Clyde to Stair Park.
Jim Weir may well have some selection headaches ahead of Tuesday night’s contest. Mason Munn and Craig Slater are likely to remain sidelined while Martin Rennie and Aron Lynas both picked up knocks in the Spartans fixture on Saturday past, and their participation in the starting line-up may well be subject to last-minute assessment. Stuart Morrison will also serve a one-match ban for his sending off for two yellow card offences against the Edinburgh outfit. The depth of the Athies player pool, not for the first time this season, may well be tested come Tuesday evening.
Elgin go into the game on the back of a 3-0 victory away to Edinburgh City at the weekend, Ryan Sargent continuing his fine goal-scoring form with a brace. Allan Hale’s side triumphed 2-1 in the first fixture between the sides up north in early October, the ‘Loons’ triumphing 4-2 on home ground on Christmas Saturday.
The sides are of course, due to meet again at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday week.
Josh Hay will be the man in the middle at Borough Briggs, the second time he has handled a Forfar Athletic fixture this season.
