Dumbarton v Forfar Athletic - Preview
[Friday, 27 March 2026 10:47]
The ‘Loons’ head west on Saturday, Dumbarton their opponents at the business end of the William Hill League2 campaign.
It has been a mixed bag of results for Jim Weir and his squad in March month with one win, two draws and two defeats, the last of those at Elgin on Tuesday night. Jim was disappointed that his side did not manage to break the deadlock in the first period up at Borough Briggs, especially following on from their hard fought point against Spartans the previous Saturday.
The catalogue of unavailability, illness and injuries though took its toll in the second period with the home side netting twice without reply to seal three points and move above the Athies in the league table. The ‘Loons’ now sit in sixth position going into tomorrow’s clash with the ‘Sons’ and will certainly need to reap some reward from the ninety minutes to stay in touch with the clubs above them.
Thankfully Stuart Morrison returns from suspension and Mark Whatley should be fit for action if required, while the management team were also hopeful that Craig Slater might return to the match day squad after a two week absence. Others including Aron Lynas and Matty Allan who both played at Elgin despite still recovering from knocks received in the Spartans clash will require to be assessed prior to kick-off.
Six points have been the reward for two impressive performances against our hosts on Saturday in recent times an impressive 4-1 success at the Marbill Stadium in November being followed by a 2-0 victory on home territory in February. Martin Rennie and Jake Dolzanski, the latter now due to serve a two match suspension in the home fixtures with Elgin and East Kilbride were the scorers on that occasion.
Making it three in a row on Saturday will however be no easy task. Frank McKeown’s rejuvenated side are up there with the two runaway leaders in the League2 standings over the last six game form table, having recorded three wins and three draws. They continued their recent momentum with a 2-1 win over Annan last weekend, Scott Honeyman and Leighton McIntosh their marksmen.
Experienced Grade One referee Gavin Duncan is the man in charge of Saturday’s match.
As has been well documents the kick off time on Saturday is at 2pm.
